Most of us are bound to feel a little lonely at some point in our lives and this is generally unavoidable for many of us. It’s important to remember that feeling lonely doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have friends or people to talk to – in fact many people who are constantly surrounded by people tend to feel lonely due to a lack of real connection. Adversely, if you are literally alone and have no one to talk to or share your feelings and thoughts with, you should take it as a sign that something may need to change. Generally, loneliness can be caused by a number of factors such as moving to a new town, losing a loved one, becoming depressed or battling with low self-esteem issues. It’s important to remember that all of us are vulnerable to these issues and can start to feel lonely at any point in our lives. Generally, when we feel sad or insecure about ourselves, we don’t go to the trouble of meeting new people or trying to put ourselves out there for fear of being rejected or told off or the thought of simply not enjoying ourselves persuades us to stay inside and in bed – wrapped up away from the troubles of the world and the issues that we need to deal with. There are also serious health issues that may come as a response to long-term or chronic loneliness. This could be things like heart disease, obesity, decreased memory, antisocial behavior, drug abuse and in serious cases extreme depression or even suicide.

I’ve worked with people who have openly said they want to kill themselves simply because they cannot connect with the people around them. So it’s easy to see why this is such an important issue to address and feelings of loneliness or acute isolation should always be treated seriously. When it comes to treating loneliness from a clinical point of view, it’s important to remember that you have to allow the patient to understand for him or herself that the issue is a sign that something has to change on their behalf. You can’t just tell them that something needs to change, you have to give them enough space and support to let them come to that understanding by themselves. Once you’ve made that understanding, it’s a lot easier to convince yourself (or better yet, allow your friends to convince you) to get out there again. While it may not mean going to a nightclub or a highly demanding environment at first, you can start off slowly by spending time at a local charity or going to more cultured events like plays or art exhibitions because these are great places to meet open-minded people who are more likely to be accommodating than youngsters drunk at a club. I remember taking a patient to one of my reading club meetings every 2 weeks for 3 months until they worked up the courage to talk to a stranger. Sometimes, it takes a while – but helping someone overcome their loneliness could mean that you save a life.

Meta Brain Conversations: Cafe Coffee

My brain likes to talk with itself. I don’t mean that I talk to myself. I mean that different parts of my brain talk to each other and argue. It mostly argues about nonsense or things that I have to do that day. I don’t confuse this with reasoning because that would imply that I am doing something reasonable. I am not. You should hear what goes on up there, its not at all like having a regular thought. No. it is a dialogue, a heated discussion, an argument. It shouldn’t be but one part of my brain is trying its very best to be the logical one but the other one is too busy being facetious and sometimes sarcastic to sound reasonable though it makes some good points of its own. I once had a friend tell me that the inside of my mind must look like a cartoon or a Dr. Seuss book. I don’t think she is wrong, and I think this illustrates that quite nicely.

The conversation will go something like this: Brain One: “You should bring your coffee to work because there is no coffee left in the office and you don’t want to buy coffee.” Brain Two: “That sounds like a good idea but how am I going to transport it, hmmm? Didn’t think about that, didja!” Brain One considers this. “Yes, it wouldn’t be a good idea to walk around with an open mug and I don’t have a thermos in which to transport the coffee… Perhaps put the coffee grounds and sugar in a little plastic baggy, put that in the mug, put all of that in your purse and be on your way? It’s so simple!” Brain Two: “Sure, if you think that simply you will come up with dumb ideas! Where is the milk going to come from? There isn’t any at the office” Brain One: “Do you really need to add milk? You only use a little bit anyway. Maybe you won’t notice the difference” Brain Two: “You ask me this every time there is no milk and I try it and I don’t finish it. It’s a waste! Either we have milk, or we don’t have coffee” Brain One: “Maybe just buy milk! Did you ever think of that?!” Brain Two: “If I’m buying more milk, I might as well buy coffee, you fool!” Brain One: “Don’t call me a fool, you fool! I’m just trying to avoid buying things we don’t need!” Brain Two: “by suggesting we buy something we don’t need?! Fool”.

Brain Three chimes in meekly out of nowhere: “Um, hey guys? It sounds like you’re well on your way to just buying the coffee from a coffee shop… You gave it your best shot. Go buy coffee.”

Brains One and Two look at each other: “We buy coffee? We buy coffee.”

Taking the Train

The Subway, or train as we native New Yorkers like to call it, is one of the best ways to explore the city. The train runs in four out of the five boroughs. We’ve got it in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. However, Staten Island, the forgotten borough as I like to call it (hey, at least I think about it enough to give it a name at all), does not have the train. The people who live there are stuck with a life of busses and ferries. Anyway, the train has different lines which are grouped together in different colors. Growing up, my go-to trains were always the B and the Q. lucky for me, I lived by an express stop. Basically, in my area of Brooklyn, the B and the Q ran parallel, yet the B skipped a few stops at a time while the Q ran local. What this means is that I could generally hop on either train to get to where I needed to go. I didn’t need to think about local versus express. It also meant that late at night or on the weekends when the B didn’t run, I wasn’t left without a train option. I felt spoiled, having access to public transportation 24/7.

I started taking the train alone regularly when I was 12 and no longer allowed on the school bus. It was only two stops between my home and my school, plus about 15 to twenty minutes of walking time. And I wasn’t the only one who had to do this. Most mornings I took the train alone, but in the afternoon I generally walked to the station and took the train with a few friends. And these friends actually lived even farther away than I did, so they would get off at the same stop that I did and then have to take a bus even farther. Luckily, that was not my life. At this point in my life my mom got me my first cell phone, since I was traveling alone and she wanted me to have something in case of an emergency. But the truth is, I always felt safe. Even when I traveled late at night, I never feared. Luckily, I lived in a good neighborhood, and the trains are well lit. when I would get off the train, one side of the street had plenty of stores with lights in the front, so I would walk on that side. I would pretend to be on my phone so that anyone looking at me would know that someone was expecting me home soon, and by the time I got to my own block I felt totally fine. It was well-lit and a quiet street, so I knew that people would hear me if something went wrong. I have a front door and a back door entrance, so depending on my mood I would choose which one to use.

Les Misérables

Hugh Jackman is one of my favorite actors. I specifically like his new move into music and film together. He could obviously always sing and its given rise to all these actors and actresses that have both these skills. Its quite amazing. He was great as Wolverine, I loved him in Australia and Les Misérables and love him even more in the movie The Greatest Showman. I think he’s been amazing in most of the movies he’s been in.

Apparently, he used to be a clown at children’s parties ba ck in the day! He said that didn’t go on for too long and thank goodness for us it didn’t. Hugh Jackman was born 12 th October 1968 and is an Australian actor, singer and producer. He was born in Sydney. He has had a long career and it still seems to be going swimmingly. He is married to Deborra-Lee Furness. They met on the set of an Australian TV show called Correlli. Hugh Jackman personally designed the engagement ring for his future bride and their actual wedding rinds bore the Sanskrit (ancient Indian language) inscription “Om Paramar Mainamar” translated as “we dedicate our union to a
greater source”. That speaks volumes to their relationship and who they are as individuals. His wife unfortunately suffered two mis-carriages, so they adopted two mixed-race children Oscar and Ava. It must have been hard to have miscarriages and also again it speaks volumes that they adopted too.

Jackman has shown to be very keen in sport. In high school he plated rugby and cricket and took part in the high jumping and swimming team. It is said that he enjoys basketball and kayaking. Jackman has also been an avid practitioner of transcendental meditation since the age of twenty and he has said that “nothing has ever opened my eyes like Transcendental Meditation has”. He goes on to say, “It makes me calm and happy and well it gives me some peace and quiet in a what’s a pretty chaotic life”. He now helped the David Lynch Foundation to bring mediation to everyone from PTSD sufferers to inner city kids.

He will always be one of my favorite actors and since seeing him in Le Mis and The Greatest Showman, well my love for him has doubled. He just seems like a very down to earth and approachable person and seems to care about what he does. That’s what comes off. I am very grateful to him as an actor for all that he has shared with us. I only wonder what more is to come!

Anna And The Sistine Chapel

Anastasia was my best friend. I met her in Rome. I was there on a four day vacation. I
just needed a break. Little did I know I would be exhausting myself instead of relaxing –
but who goes to Rome to rest – silly me! We met looking up at the Sistine Chapel

We were both there on our own, Ana is from New Zealand and I am from Ireland and
somehow we just connected as if we had been neighbors or friends all our lives. Ana
was and is a health freak. Super into her juicing, veganism, meditation, yoga, essential
oils. She told me she loved Tea Tree oil Shampoo by Maple Holistics and put me onto it. I am literally
addicted to it, I can see why she likes it so much.

Ana is super healthy and has rubbed off on me. Since meeting her at the Sistine Chapel
that wonderfully fateful day – I myself have now become a Vegan and I am just loving it.
She is one of those super positive people that just rub off on you.

So I was literally just standing there marveling at the wonder of this ceiling. The ceiling
was painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. It was painted at the commission
of Pope Julius II. Central to the ceiling decoration are nine scenes from the Book of
Genesis of which the Creation of Adam is best known. It’s majestic!

Ana and I bumped into each-other while we were both looking up and that was it. We
started talking and I was taken in. She was so bright and colorful and was just so positive
and happy. We did the rest of the tour together and then we decided to go out for Pizza
after. We both discovered that we had come to Rome because it had been our bucket
lists and that we had both come over for a short break. She was and is still in PR and I
was in and am still in Marketing. She was wearing a blue jacket and blue hat, I was
wearing a yellow jacket and yellow hat. She has a daughter called Belle and I have a
daughter called Bethany, the parallels were uncanny! We talked and talked and ate and
ate! We spent the last two days together. It’s like once we had met, we couldn’t leave
each-others side. It was like we were long-lost sisters.

Since meeting her almost four years ago now, I have been to New Zealand twice. She
has been to my home in Ireland. On the last trip to New Zealand I brought my daughter
along to meet her daughter and low and behold they got on like a house on fire. Its like
we had all been a long lost family.

We stayed in her home which was just beautiful and was a true reflection of her
positivity. There were home-made lotions and potions everywhere and we all got into
created home-made creams and home-made jams – you name it, it was home-made.
When she came to Ireland, I took her to a place near Galway where you can make your
own perfume from scratch. She just loved it. A true friendship this was and long may it
last. Here’s to my friend Ana and the Sistine Chapel.

The Glock 17 Is A Special Thing

When the Glock first came out, people were skeptical. There were some who went so far as to say it won’t survive even a short time. They said that no military, law-enforcement department, or government agency will want to purchase a “plastic gun” to use as a service side arm or backup gun.

Well, long story short, they were wrong. They were off by a lot. I mean, a lot. Glock is one of the best-known firearms manufacturers in the world, and Gaston Glock himself is still alive and kicking. So, there will always be naysayers and enemies. You need to stick to your guns – quite literally, in this case – even when there are those who rise up against you.

Glock continued their search for perfection, and it was not long before other countries, not just Austria, took notice of this gun and began making plans to purchase it. The Glock 17, which is the original full size 9mm pistol, has since undergone a few changes. There are several generations of Glocks available, each with its own differences and advantages. There is a reason why many first timers go with a Glock. It is easy to handle, easy to maintain, and easy to carry. If you are looking for a first-time gun, this is certainly one to consider.

There will always be those who claim you should not go with a polymer gun, but instead buy a metal frame. There are plenty of great guns which are metal, and they are indeed heavier, but they have a more substantiated and glorious tradition behind the. When you pick up something like a SIG Sauer, you know that you are getting something really good. THIS is a gun. Right? Well, maybe. Some still say Glock is a plastic gun, and that it is not worth the money.

Harmful Ingredients

תוצאת תמונה עבור ‪harmful ingredients in cosmetics‬‏In today’s fast-paced world where it’s hard to stop for a moment to even catch your breath, let alone take time to rest and gather your thoughts, it’s easy for us to be fooled into believing something that isn’t true or is simply a false equivalency. What do I mean by this? Well the nature of the food, cosmetics and hair care products we use on a daily basis for instance is far more harmful and dangerous than many of us know or would like to admit. It’s a serious issue that is gradually affecting not only the lives of people like us as consumers, but also the greater environment around us. So to stay on the path we’re currently on is to basically ignore your own body’s needs and the needs of the greater environment around us. A loophole in federal law doesn’t require companies to declare any of the dozens of toxic chemicals that a single product’s fragrance mixture could contain. Artificial fragrances, which frequently contain phthalates, can also trigger allergic reactions and other health problems. Be mindful of the hidden dangers that “fragrance” or “parfum” listed on ingredients labels can pose, and always choose fragrance-free products.

This is only one of the harmful ingredients that is so often contained in our products – the list goes on the amount of ingredients involved here are quite astounding. We’ve certainly gone quite far off the beaten track when it comes to experimenting and utilising synthetic chemical ingredients as a part of our daily lives. You can never go wrong with glass because it’s recyclable and has no danger of leaching toxins into the product contained within. As far as plastics go, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), also known by the recycling code #1, and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), (#2), are most frequently accepted by municipal curbside recycling programs and are considered safe; polycarbonate (#7), may leach the endocrine disruptor bisphenol-A, or BPA. Polypropylene (#5), another food-safe plastic, is also a good alternative, though less easily recycled. (To find a polypropylene recycler in your neighborhood, visit Earth911.org.) Maple Holistics is the best place to go for the best reviews on all of your favorite products.

Avoid containers that bear recycling code #3 and the letter “V”, which refers to polyvinyl chloride, or PVC. Dubbed “the poison plastic,” PVC poses great environmental and health hazards from manufacture to disposal. In addition to reתוצאת תמונה עבור ‪harmful ingredients in cosmetics‬‏leasing hydrochloric acid, cancer-causing dioxins, and other persistent pollutants into the air, water, and land during its production, PVC also contains additives and chemical stabilizers–such as lead, cadmium, and di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (a suspected carcinogen that is known to cause a host of reproductive and developmental defects)–that can leach, flake, or off-gas from the plastic throughout its life. It’s important to remember that a skincare company is more than the sum of its products. What about its philosophy and values? Visiting a website is always enlightening. Does the company test on animals, for example? Has it signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, a pledge to remove harmful chemicals from ingredients lists and replace them with safer alternatives? How committed is it to reducing its impact on the environment?

AK-47 And M16

Give peace a chance is an age old adage we constantly scream at rallies and other such events but why do we never achieve it? I tend to think the reason we don’t is because we humans don’t realize that good ideas change policy, weapons do and in particular guns and shotguns. Look at any army and they will be armed not with flowers but with AK47’s and M16’s. These two rifles are staples of militaries around the world. The purpose of these militaries is to keep the piece. The more leaders realize the futility of our existence the more they want to try to control the inevitable. What I mean to say is that they hoard ammunition and shotguns for the expressed goal of having power, power which is really inconsequential in the grand scheme of things but makes these leaders of the free world feel better about their existence.

I myself got into all this mess when I enlisted into the US Army. I was a fresh faced 18 year old high school graduate that wanted to see the world and help where I could. It was just my luck that 9/11 occurred and we decided to invade Iraq and Afghanistan. So after boot camp and learning how to shoot a rifle I was sent on a plane to the Middle East, a place so foreign to me that I would joke about things I didn’t understand. I knew my training and was ready for anything that may have happened. The truth is more boring that fiction. You get stationed on guard duty holding your M16 which you can learn about on Gunivore.com and you sit there waiting for something to happen. As a young gun I was hoping something would happen and really it never did. Now that I am older I can solemnly say I am happy nothing did. I have friends who got injured and even killed in action and frankly it makes me sad to think about and makes me wonder what could have been.

When I got home from service I decided to go to college for political science. I wanted to understand the nature of politics and how it spells out the world we live in. It is a complicated mess of relationships and shit eating grins that allow the world to work in the way that it does. It is a power play and the ultimate game of chess. It involves savvy and know-how and more importantly it involves fire power in the form of cannons and tanks and handguns and rifles. It is fear that allows things to take control and there is not much one can do about it. So I have tried my best to help where I can and try to improve the world I live in. It is small steps towards a larger goal. Every day I wake up and wonder what the day will bring. Sometimes I know because I schedule other times it is up in the air.

Purple Shampoo

When you take a look at the hair care aisle at the supermarket or pharmacy, there are so many options out there. It is like that famous Seinfeld gag about cold medication: “this one’s quick-acting, that one’s long-lasting… hmm. When do I need to feel good – now or later?”

But all jokes aside, there are tons and tons of products out there. The beauty and cosmetics industry is a 12 billion dollar business. Amazing numbers, huh? I think so. Many cosmetics companies sell you some pretty bad products, let me tell you. People are buying all kinds of products to counter the effect of their other products. It seems crazy to me.

I dye my hair on a regular basis, a few times a year. Been doing this for a long while. I love to experiment with color, but this past year was mainly a blonde year. I adore the golden blonde color which I have, and I almost always dye it at home. It works. Yes, I know, a salon may produce better results, but I am so far very happy with my own work. Well, me and a friend (I have very long and thick hair, and it takes several tubes of color sometimes, de

pending on the brand).

Whenever I have blonde hair for more than a few months, I start using purple shampoo about a month after dying. Sometimes I plan to, sometimes I just use it because I feel it is needed. The purple dye in the shampoo helps the dye job stay more nicer-looking for a longer period of time. This is my case, and your mileage will invariably vary (see what I did there?). I found out that it also works for natural blondes. Apparently, it helps give their natural hair more of a kick. It is not as essential for them, I guess, but because brassy colors can also be gained from the elements and by harmful hair care products, it is possible for natu

ral blondes to use purple shampoo (Reviewed By Maple Holistics) for the same reason I do.

Not all brands are the same. Some are more natural than others. Some contain the very same harmful ingredients which can cause the hair and scalp to unbalance. It is a vicious circle, isn’t it? This is by no means 100%. Some hair and scalps are more sensitive than others. What affects one person a certain way, will have no effect whatsoever on the other. Heck, there are some blondes out there who don’t ever experience brassy hair, and who never have to deal with any kind of interference. Pretty sweet, huh?

Well, I am not one of those. When I dye my hair, I want to keep it that color. After all, I didn’t spend money on dye just to have it stick around for a few weeks and then turn on me, did I? No no, certainly not. This is probably the only thing I don’t like about summer. The sun is awesome, but it can strip my hair good.

Glock 19 Gen 4

The Glock 19 gen 4 is an excellent gun. How excellent, you ask? Well, buckle up because I’m going to tell you a fascinating story about how I came to become one of the proudest Glock 19 gen 4 (Reviewed By Gunivore) owners you will ever meet! It all started when I woke up inside of the trunk of my landlords car. See, I was several months late on rent, and additionally I had been “shacking up” with the landlords daughter – not a recipe for a good landlord-client relationship if you ask me! Anyways, I woke up inside of his car and I smelled lighter fluid and cement. I realized that the landlord was planning on burning me to death before covering me in cement and letting me sink to the bottom of the Riverdale River!

Now, this was not something I wanted to have to experience. I enjoy living, and the thought of dying is an unpleasant one, particularly if it was going to be such an unpleasant death. Now, imagine yourself in my predicament – waking up inside of the trunk of a moving vehicle, knowing what fate awaited you. How terrifying! I did the only thing that I could think of – I began praying to the magic pirate space monkey that I workship named Zhu Zhu. A friend of many years, Zhu Zhu has helped me out of many predicaments. I remember once, Zhu Zhu convinced me that I should begin running an illegal amphetamine selling business out of my mom’s basement, and it turned out that the business was a great success! Now, back to our story. Where was I again? Oh yeah, I had begun praying to Zhu Zhu. Well, Zhu Zhu appeared to me instantly, wearing his trademark sweater vest and matching accompanying fez. “Zhu Zhu!” I exclaimed, “please help me escape from the trunk of my landlords car!”. “My sweet child,” Zhu Zhu said, “not only will I help you escape from your landlords trunk, I will help you avoid any situations like this in the future.” Zhu Zhu banged his magical golden cymbals three times, and I instantly felt a Glock 19 gen 4 materialize in my hand out of thin air! At this point Zhu Zhu said, “brace yourself, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!”

I felt the car leave the ground and begin whirling through the air at an intense speed. I heard a crash and fading scream as my landlord went flying through the windshield at 100 mph. He died mid-flight as the shock gave him a massive heart attack, but his body ended up splattered across the frontside of a Dunkin Donuts establishment. The car stopped in an abandon alley. I heard Zhu Zhu vanish, heard the trunk of the car unlock, and helped myself out of the car, the proud owner of a Glock 19 gen 4! I fired the gun in the air in triumphant celebration several times before I headed home, with no landlord to bother me any longer and his daughter awaiting me. Zhu Zhu had saved me once again.

I hope you enjoyed my blog:
